The collection has been closed and creators have been revealed. If you haven't yet left a comment on your gift, we ask that you take the time to thank your artist or author now.

This wraps us up for the year! We'll be back in May-June of next year for feedback and prep for the next round.

Thanks to all our participants, particularly those who took the time to pinch-hit! See you in 2018!

There is now just one week left to post your assignments and pinch hits! All works should be posted by 11:55 p.m. PDT on October 2.  (Find out what time that is where you live.)

There will be time for minor edits during the late pinch hit period, but your works should fit the requirements of the challenge by this point or we may have to consider your assignment in default. (And, yes, we do check all of the posted works!)

As always, feel free to contact us at crossoveringmods@gmail.com if you have any issues or concerns. Otherwise, check out the relevant links below:

Assignments have been sent! You should receive an email from AO3 with your assignment details. Your assignment will also be listed on your Assignments page, which you can locate by going to your AO3 profile (http://archiveofourown.org/users/your_username_here) and clicking on "Assignments" in the left column.

We have 5 initial pinch hits. You can view these here. If you are not a member of the pinch hit list, you can go to this link and click join, or you can send a blank e-mail to crossovering-ph+subscribe@googlegroups.com. Make sure you have your preferences set to Send me an e-mail for every new message.

All pinch hits claims will be done through the Google group.

Pinch Hits #1-5 Details. (Claim @ Google group.) )

The Requests Summary will remain open throughout the creation period. Participants and nonparticipants are welcome to choose from among the prompts to create treats. Treats do not have any minimum requirements and should be tagged as Crossovering Treat when posted to the archive.

Now that assignments have been sent, all letters should be unlocked so that artists and authors can see their recipients requests. If your recipient still has a placeholder or has not unlocked their letter, please let us know, and we will contact them.

So you've got your assignment and now you're wondering where to go from here? Check out instructions, details and rules behind the cut.

Expect your assignments to arrive within the next ten minutes or so.

For now, let's open this year's beta readers post.

While we do not require stories to have a beta reader, we strongly recommend it.

If you're volunteering as a beta, please comment here! Tell us:
  • Which fandoms you can work in (full list of Crossovering fandoms)

  • How to contact you: email, @Twitter, Tumblr, Skype, PM on LJ/DW, etc.

  • If you're offering SPAG, worldbuilding, character, or plot help ... or all four!

  • An estimate of what your turnaround time is

  • Your dealbreakers, aka what you won't beta, e.g., violence, non-con, cheating, mushrooms, talking animals, etc.

Looking for a beta but none of the volunteers have listed your fandom(s)? You can leave an anonymous comment here listing the fandoms you need help with. Do not reveal other details of your assignment.

Anonymous comments will be unscreened and can be replied to by beta volunteers with their contact info.

If you're looking for a beta and are worried about revealing your assignment, you can email the mods, and we'll act as go-between on your behalf.

We will send assignments tomorrow—Wednesday, August 2—at 1:00 PM PDT. [Countdown.]

We have a handful of pinch hits we'll also send out at that time. Pinch hits are given on first-come-first-serve.

This means that you have 24 hours to finish writing and editing your letters! If your letter is locked, please unlock it as soon as possible!

In order to maintain the two month creation period, we've made the following changes to the schedule:
Assignments sent: August 2
Assignments due: October 2
Final pinch hits due: October 12
Archive goes live: October 13
Authors revealed: October 20
We realize this creates a greater gap between the deadline and collection opening, but we wanted to open the archive on a weekend and give post-deadline pinch hitters plenty of time to work with.

We'll see you tomorrow!

We're still working on assignments (getting closer and closer), but before we send them out, we want to make sure everyone is aware of the Pinch Hit list. We do have a few initial pinch hits to send out, so if you're interested in picking up a pinch hit, or just getting on the list for later in the exchange, here's how:

You can join the pinch hit mailing list by sending a blank email to crossovering-ph+subscribe@googlegroups.com or by groups.google.com/d/forum/crossovering-ph visiting and clicking join. Be sure to set your email delivery option to "Send me an email for every new message".

Pinch hits will be sent to the entire list when they are made available. To claim, you must be the first to respond to the message with a blank email. (Please reply directly and do NOT reply to all.) You will receive confirmation from a mod if you successfully claimed the pinch hit. If you don't get a confirmation, you didn't get the pinch hit, but you can try for the next request to catch your eye!

We do have a handful of participants without recipients. We will send emails to those people tonight. Those people will have 24 hours to reply. After that, we'll need to delete signups to facilitate matching.

We also (naturally) have some initial pinch hits. We'll send those out along with assignments.

You should expect assignments to go out no later than Wednesday. We'll update you with specifics as soon as we're able to do so.

We've sent emails to some people whose requests may need a little tweaking, so if you have requests with 3+ canons, go ahead and check to make sure you haven't heard from us.

We appreciate your patience as we try to work out these kinks. We're so glad you've all stuck around with us! :) You'll still have the same amount of time to write; we'll simply adjust the due dates, etc.

More info as soon as it's available!

Signups are closed, and matches are being generated! We're all away from computers, so we'll post more info later this afternoon. Please be on the lookout for emails from us today/tonight.

Signups close in ONE HOUR! (Countdown.)

Please keep an eye on your e-mail after sign-ups close as we may need to contact people that are unmatchable. The quicker we hear back from them, the sooner everyone will get their assignments!

We understand that sign-ups are complex (particularly in this exchange) and many participants have more time to complete a sign-up on the weekend. Because of that, we have decided to extend sign-ups through the weekend.

So with that in mind, your new sign-up deadline is: Sunday, July 30 at 12 (noon) p.m. PDT. (
    Countdown here!)

We still plan on sending out assignments on the 30th, as planned. However, if matching proves difficult, we will adjust the schedule accordingly. Everyone will still get the 2 month window to create their assignments, even if we have to shift dates a little.

Hey, guys! Signups close in a little under 4 days @ 11:55 PM PDT on Thursday, July 27. Here's a countdown.

Signups are now closing at 12:00 PM PDT on Sunday, July 30th.

As a reminder, if you choose more than 2 fandoms for a single request/offer, you can match on any combination of those fandoms. We strongly encourage you to spread out your prompts and other optional details across all those possible combinations. We've seen a few signups with holes in those areas.

We also wanted to remind everyone that you can choose only 2 fandoms per request/offer. So if you'd like to see Pacific Rim crossed with Alias OR Stranger Things, but you aren't interested in a crossover between Alias and Stranger Things, you should put Pacific Rim/Alias in one request and Pacific Rim/Stranger Things in another request.

All of that said, optional details are ultimately a courtesy to your artist or author. We strongly encourage the use of optional details/prompts, particularly in an exchange like this one, but we can't force you to use them. If you choose not to leave optional details for a particular crossover match, your artist or author will be free to create whatever they want, so long as they mind your DNWs.

    DEAR CROSSOVERING CREATOR | FAQ

If you're new to exchanges at AO3 and confused about how sign-ups work, read this tutorial about signing up for gift exchanges.

As a reminder: You're allowed to choose multiple fandoms from within a greater franchise in a single request/offer, but we cannot prevent AO3 from matching on those 2 fandoms. For example, you might offer Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but if someone else requests Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1, AO3 might pair you.

Put short, if you prefer to receive or create a crossover/fusion between 2 distinctly separate franchises, we encourage you to refrain from putting 2+ sub-franchise fandoms in a single request/offer.

Signups open in 10 minutes! (Finally, right?) That means it's also time to start sharing your Dear Crossovering Creator Letters!

These letters are 100% optional but highly encouraged (particularly due to the nature of this exchange). If you've never participated in an exchange like this before, a Dear Creator Letter is a post at your DW/LJ/Tumblr/Blog, etc. detailing your requests and giving your assigned creator ideas for possible art or fic. These letters also include your likes, dislikes, and any triggers you migh thave. You can link them here, as well as in your sign-up form. How you format or write them is entirely up to you.

If you have any triggers (things that may cause you harm if you read about them), we highly recommend that you make that clear in your letter as well as in the optional details on your signup. Not every participant clicks through to letters, and this is the best way to cover your bases so that your creator will not unintentionally use your triggers.

For more info and great examples of what we mean check out the following links: The Yuletide FAQ or letters from previous years.

Keep in mind that letters are completely optional, which also means that creators are in no way required to follow the optional details. The only requirements are that they use the fandoms you matched on and that they respect your DNWs. Essentially: Optional details are optional.

If you are posting a link to your letter here, we ask that you copy/paste the following when you comment:

This year's tagset is now visible. (Alphabetical view.)

We approved 534 nominations this year. That's 329 more than last year! Please check the list even if your fandom was rejected, as it may have been approved under a related tag.

For those who like to keep track year-to-year, this year's most nominated exchange was Leverage with 9 nominations.

    We rejected only 3 fandoms:
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Star Trek Beyond — As they're installments in a series. We view these like nominating one book in the Harry Potter series. However, we're open to accepting installments next year.

  • The Hunger Games - All Media Types — As we've approved The Hunger Games films and novels separately. Because participants can choose both in a request or offer, we felt All Media Types was superfluous. Again, we're absolutely open to discussion on this next year.

  • Signups open Tuesday, July 18th @ 8:00 AM PDT. (Compare to your time. See the current time in Los Angeles.)

If you have any questions or concerns about the tagset, please comment here or email crossoveringmods@gmail.com.

Otherwise, we'll see you at signups! We look forward to taking advantage of all the changes to this year's exchange—and we hope you are, too!

Nominations have now officially closed. We'd like to thank all of you who took the time to nominate, and we sincerely hope to see you all at sign-ups when they begin on July 18.

Until then, please make sure to watch this space. Although we don't expect to have as many questionable fandoms as we have in previous years, there may still be questions we have for nominators, so be on the lookout. We will begin approving fandoms right away and will continue through the next day or so until we have a complete tagset. We plan on getting the tagset up as soon as we can, thus giving everyone time to peruse the list of fandoms before sign-ups open.

You may notice during this process that some of your fandoms will be listed as rejected or approved at AO3. But, please keep in mind that this does not necessarily reflect what will or won't appear in the final tag set. (Should your fandom be listed as approved, it likely is. Should your fandom be listed as rejected, it may be approved under a different tag.) Once the tag set is complete, we will make it public and post here to let everyone know that the review period is over and if there are any issues or discrepancies with your nominations, you can let us know at that time.

    Thanks again for nominating!

There are only 24 hours left to nominate fandoms for this year's exchange! Nominations will close on July 15 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. (Find out what time that is where you live.)

Nominations are now open on AO3!

We're so excited for this year's exchange, we're getting started a little early: you will have until July 15 @ 11:59 PM PDT to nominate up to 8 fandoms you might want to request or offer for Crossovering. (What time is that for me?)

Don't worry, we'll give warnings here and on Tumblr multiple times before we close nominations, and we'll make sure everyone has plenty of time to get them in.

    Now, here's how it works:
    • If you've done nominations for Yuletide or another exchange, this will be very familiar. You'll go here under your AO3 account and select up to 8 fandoms.
    • If the Archive provides you with a fandom tag while you're typing, please use that. It will make the process run much more smoothly.
    • Once you've filled all of the slots, just click on submit at the bottom of the page and you're done! (Of course, you aren't required to use all 8 slots.)
    • For fandoms with multiple continuities, you have the option of using the umbrella fandom tag (Fandom X - All Media Types, or Fandom Y and related fandoms, for example), or nominating each continuity separately (Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy VIII, &c.). Please check in at the Brainstorming Post to see if you have any overlap with another participant.
    • Nominating fandoms is not a commitment to participate in the exchange itself! We'd love to have you, but if you just want to make sure the bases are covered for friends or to make sure there is something you're interested in if you do sign up, go right ahead! No one can write it or request it if it isn't nominated.
    • If you're still unsure about how the exchange works, make sure you take a look at our FAQ page.
    • If you need to let the mods know information about your fandom that will help it get approved or tagged properly, please leave that info in the comments so we can refer to it when we review nominations. Any other questions or comments or discussion of nominations can take place here as well.

As always, if you have any questions or need any assistance, do not hesitate to ask! Happy Nominating!
