Tagset is open!

The tagset for this year's challenge is officially viewable. Check out the default view for a list of all fandoms eligible for this year's exchange.

We had a record number of nominations this year, so we ended up approving 205 fandoms, including all fandoms that had 2 or more nominations. Please check the list even if your fandom was rejected, because it may have been approved under a related tag. We did have to reject many fandoms, but hopefully there are still plenty available for everyone to formulate their requests and offers.

This year's most nominated fandoms were:

1. Revolution (TV) - 14 nominations
2. Harry Potter - 13 nominations
3. Marvel Cinematic Universe, Killjoys (TV), Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 10 nominations
4. Hamilton - Miranda, Forever (TV) - 8 nominations
5. Young Wizards, Person of Interest, Veronica Mars, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Leverage - 7 nominations

A few important things to note: 

We approved a tag (currently under Uncategorized Fandoms) for Final Fantasy (Video Games). If requesting or offering this fandom, please keep in mind that the following entries in the series were the ones nominated and will likely be what the nominators are requesting: 

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2
Compilation of Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy XIII

We also have two Star Wars related tags: Star Wars - All Media Types and Star Wars: Rebels. Star Wars - All Media Types should only contain requests for the movies in the series, not animated series, comic books, video games, books etc. None of those were nominated, so they are not eligible. You may specify in your requests which movies you'd like to read about if necessary.

Hey, this may be too late to change now, but just as a heads up 'Final Fantasy VII' and 'Compilation of Final Fantasy VII' are actually the same fandom. Final Fantasy VII is the main installment, the 'Compilation' bit is used in order to also include various spinoffs and adaptations that exist within the same universe.

Just curious, are you the nominator for either or both of these fandoms? If so, we're definitely willing to discuss a change. But if not, well, we haven't heard from the nominator(s) on these two, so we really don't know what their intent is. (Our own limited knowledge of the franchise can see both sides though, as to why people might want one or both nominated.) Ultimately, none of the Final Fantasy franchise nods received enough nominations to make the cut on their own, hence the umbrella tag. But if the Final Fantasy VII nominator steps forward before sign-ups, we'd absolutely be willing to discuss a change.

And since this issue with this particular franchise seems to come up every year (although it varies in the details and numbers), we'll definitely work on a plan to put in place before nominations even begin next year to help make it better for all of the Final Fantasy fans. (We hope!)

Yes, I am! I nominated it under 'Final Fantasy VII' just because I can never remember that AO3 also uses the 'Compilation' bit. (I can give you a screencap of my noms if you'd like confirmation, though it looks like it was changed to 'Final Fantasy (Video Games)' on my end too when the alternate tag was approved. I only didn't step forward before because the specific FF nominations weren't mentioned in the last post; I assumed I'd been the only one to nominate FFVII and it wasn't getting in no matter what.

That said, I don't want to ruin it for anyone else in the larger fanbase--if FFVII staying out of the tagset is the only way the FF franchise can stay in somehow, I'd be hesitant to ask for a change.

We definitely would prefer to keep the one tag, for this year at least, and just ask people requesting it to specify which games/characters they're requesting. We apologize for any confusion on our end, but as you can see, we're confused ourselves! (With such a vast franchise as this one, it all starts to get complicated and especially so when our own familiarity with it is pretty vague.)

We definitely are going to put a new plan in place for next year to help everything get sorted out better though, particularly since this is an issue that keeps recurring.

Is "The Dresden Files" meant to be listed as the 'all media types' tag? The 'AMT' tag is for all of the different bits - novels, tv, comics, RPG. (I nominated the books, but I don't know if the TV series or RPG was nominated.)

This may have been an error on my part, because I thought I approved them separately, but perhaps not. There were nominations for AMT (or perhaps for the TV show, I've lost my note on it) and for the books separately, but they ended up combined. I apologize, as I should have asked the community about them, but failed to do so.

I can either keep it as it is and ask anyone requesting it to specify which parts of canon they're requesting, or I can make a separate tag for the books and the TV show as those seem to be the two that most people are asking for.

Again, I apologize. Just let me know how we should proceed so I can get it taken care of before sign-ups end! :)

From my nominations, the novels looked approved on it's own, but it's not in the tag set.

Personally, I can write both the books and the tv show, but I don't want to speak for everyone else who nominated them.

Hmmm.

There are already sign-ups for the AMT tag and no one has brought it up aside from you. So I can either poll the community to see if they want us to change it, or just keep it as is. If you're fine with it and no one else brings it up, I'd be inclined to keep it as is. But I'm willing to listen to your best judgment if you disagree. :)
